Symptoms of lactose intolerance.

Nausea and stomach ache? And all that just because you tasted a teeny tiny bit of the quark meal? It‘s probable that your lactose intolerance is distinctly worse. One the other hand other people can tolerate a certain amount of milk sugar before they experience discomfort. Symptoms of lactose intolerance can differ in intensity. That depends on whether lactase is still produced in the intestines or not. And how much milk sugar you‘ve consumed too. In general it takes around 15 to 30 minutes after the consumption of milk sugar for symptoms to appear.

  1. The cause of your complaints

For a lactose intolerant the digestion enzyme lactase is only present in small amounts or even not present at all. Lactose can therefore not be broken down anymore. Undigested it passes through the small intestine into the large intestine. There, bacteria pounce on the lactose and create fermentation processes, which in turn produce gases. These gases are detectable through a bloated stomach. The higher pressure in the intestine causes other unpleasant symptoms:

  • Stomach ache and stomach cramps
  • Nausea, possibly. Vomitting
  • Diarrhea
  • Constipation
  • Flatulence

    Further possible symptoms

It is possible that symptoms of lactose intolerance can arise in other areas of the body. The exact reasons for this are still unclear. It‘s possible that through the bacterial decomposition of the lactose toxic matebolic products are produced. They in turn pass through the blood to the nervous tissues and cause complaints there too. Possible symptoms are:

  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Sleeping problems
  • Irregular heartbeat/ palpatations
  • Aching limbs
